Our World in Color
Color is all around us, do you ever stop and take the time to think about how it affects you? For most of us color is something that we use to pair up pieces of our wardrobe, paint the walls of our shelters and choose the objects we use to adorn them. Sometimes we use a “splash of color” to show that we feel happy. Other times we feel like blending in so we choose darker and more drab colors. This is just a natural extension of our internal emotions playing out on our external selves. By this same token is it fair to say that colors can help adjust our moods? If we feel blue, would wearing orange bring the opposite feeling? Orange is the opposite on the color wheel from blue making it the complimentary shade. If that is true, and it is, this might mean that wearing the complimentary color to our mood can shift our feelings too. Something to think about.
I found I could say things with color and shapes that I couldn’t say any other way – things I had no words for.
~ Georgia O’Keeffe
In school I was taught that color is just the separation of light in to it’s various waves, and from the early morning color theory classes that I took I know that color has an effect on the human soul. So today a choose to describe the color of my life as “happy.” I think we should add that to the Crayola box.
